B-minor is a plaintive and melancholy key featured in such popular masterpieces as Hotel California, The Show Must Go On, and the DaDum from JAWS, so it’s no surprise that the mellow tone produced by the copper in this large wind chime tuned to the key of Bm produces a hauntingly beautiful background on the gentle breeze.
The suspension platform and clacker are made from your choice of locally sourced hardwoods (Walnut, Cherry, Maple, or Ash) finished in Spar Varnish to protect against the elements, and the 3/4” raw copper tubes are hand cut to length, with the hanging holes precisely positioned to not interfere with the sound producing vibrations. The tubes are hung using a waxed cotton cord intended to withstand the elements and left raw so they will oxidize with exposure and mellow to give each chime minor unique variations in sound over time. For the best results, please consider bringing your chime inside during the winter months but note that exposure to the variations of weather even in milder weather will degrade the finish and the cord and it may be required to apply more finish after a time, or restring the cord. It is recommended to inspect it regularly and perform these maintenance tasks preemptively as it is much easier restring before the cord breaks than after and the finish not only makes it looks nice but also protects the wood from cracking and possibly breaking from exposure.
Each chime is made to order and will take a week to produce before it is shipped/delivered so please take that into account if there any time-based constraints. Include any preferences for wood choices, or combinations in the comments of your order or specify if you’d like us to choose for you. Measuring 52” in total length (22” for the “body” and 30” for the hanging cords above and the wind sail below) it does require you to have the space to accommodate it so please consider that in advance so you can enjoy your chime without frustration
